Responding to moms’ rising interest in more affordable entertainment activities at home, Walmart is featuring a new “Family Night Center” in all stores this month. The area aims to help customers find new ideas for memorable family time activities and savings on popular items from Hasbro and Disney among others in a convenient “one-stop” area. Family nights are making a comeback. According to recent research through Walmart Customer Insights, more than 50 percent of moms who shop at Walmart said they were watching more movies at home with family to save money versus going out. Similarly, market research company NPD Group this year reported an increased demand for board games, with sales in the first half of the year up 10 percent over the same period in 2008. Walmart Family Night Center showcases every day low prices and new savings on popular and traditional family games such as Candy Land, Monopoly, and Operation as well as popular family DVDs like Camp Rock. In addition, moms can go to Walmart’s web site and find tips from other mom bloggers on how to create a fun family night plan, and see more about recommended products, healthy snack and dip ideas, new items and video games at www.walmart.com/familymoments. “With busier schedules and kids heading back to school, now is a great time to provide a dedicated place in our stores to give mom the savings and ideas to create fun, quality time for her family this fall,” said Laura Phillips, chief toy officer and senior vice president of Entertainment, Walmart. “Our Family Night Center is designed to provide an easy way to quickly design a complete family night experience.”
