Around 200 people participated in a Just Kid Inc webinar titled, Meet the Millennial Generation:  A 20-minute webinar introduction to the 21st century’s powerful consumers.  Led by the company’s president and founder, George Carey and its VP, director of market research and insights, Chris Moessner, the presentation gave participants an up-close look at this new generation of consumers identified by Just Kid Inc. as those born between 1982 and 2000.  With the oldest of this powerful group just starting to reach parenting age, they have high expectations of themselves and of the brands they choose to consume and understanding them will soon become a vital part of your marketing to mom success.  The younger Millennials are truly the first ‘net generation’ and connecting with them may mean changing your current communication channels. Here are some communication issues discussed during the webinar:

  • Millennials get much of their information from word-of-mouth, especially as social networking sites are becoming increasingly more popular.
  • If a product doesn’t match their expectations, they can tell thousands of their ‘friends’ with one click of the mouse.
  • With their dual need to ‘want it all’ and to ‘multi-task’, using multiple media platforms to communication to Millennials becomes critical.  Adapt messages to Millennial’s interactive media websites, IM, gaming, iPod, but also include traditional television and print materials.
  • Cause marketing is another effective way to reach Millennials.
